Abstract
The authors carried out studies on the effects of erythropoietin upon Fe^(59) uptake by the liver, spleen, may be helpful in defining the mechanism of the action of erythropoietin with the following results.
1) The spleens of the experimental group which was administered erythropoietin showed a three fold Fe^(59) uptake compared with the control group.
2) There was no significant difference in the hepatic Fe^(59) uptake between the experimental and control groups.
3) Although no difference in the Fe^(59) uptake between these two groups was noted at 48 hours after the administration of erythropoietin, it was believed that actually the marrow Fe^(59) uptake in the experimental group would be greater than that in the control group if the uptake was measured earlier that 48 hours, and the validity for such presumption drawn from the evidence of literature and our own oxperimental work was discussed.
